A Court of Thorns and Roses reading order

Sarah J. Maas · 5 books

The short answer

Read ACOTAR, A Court of Mist and Fury, A Court of Wings and Ruin, then the novella A Court of Frost and Starlight, then A Court of Silver Flames. Do not skip the novella.

Tick them off as you go
  1. A Court of Thorns and Roses2015
  2. A Court of Mist and Fury2016The book that made the series. Push through book one to get here.
  3. A Court of Wings and Ruin2017
  4. A Court of Frost and Starlight2018Novella. Sets up Silver Flames directly.
  5. A Court of Silver Flames2021

Why the order is argued about

The only common mistake is skipping A Court of Frost and Starlight because it is short and marketed as a holiday novella. It does real setup work for A Court of Silver Flames, and Silver Flames is confusing without it.

The other thing worth knowing: book one is a fairly standard retelling, and book two changes the entire shape of the series. People who quit mid-book-one quit one chapter before the turn.
